Since its foundation in 1967, Macquarie University's School of Education--a department of the Australian Centre for Educational Studies--has built an international reputation for the quality of its programs, its research, scholarship and service to the educational community. The school has strong links with the broader educational community through professional associations and active involvement with education providers at all levels.
The School's Teacher Education Program is widely acknowledged as one of Australia's finest. The program is distinguished by the emphasis it attaches to the concept of the scholar-teacher, its promotion of reflective classroom practice, and its innovative, school-based, professional experience program. A focus on the application of information and communication-based technologies in educational settings is integrated across the programs.
Macquarie University's Graduate Diploma in Education program provides students with the qualifications to teach students at the secondary level, which comprises Grades 7 through 12. The program covers subjects in theories of education, training in curriculum areas, as well as methodologies and classroom experience. The school experience component includes at least 60 days of supervised practicum in a school setting, with a designated classroom teacher as the mentor.
Macquarie University's Special Education Centre (MUSEC) incorporates an on-site special education school, allowing postgraduate students to experience what they are learning being put into best practice.
For international students in particular, Macquarie gives you the opportunity to meet not only Australians, but people from all around the world. With students from more than 71 nations on campus, you will truly have an international learning experience!
