Counsellors aim to help people explore and clarify problems and help those people to develop resources and skills to cope with difficulties, opportunities and/or experiences. Counselling may help you get through a distressing time in your life.
Many students who are interested in undertaking postgraduate Counselling degrees have already completed undergraduate studies in Psychology or Social Work. In Canada and most other jurisdictions, the most common entry standard for being registered as a counsellor (regulated or non-regulated) is a Master's degree in Counselling.
Three of OzTREKK's Australian universities offer postgraduate Counselling programs for students with an undergraduate degree who wish to practise as counsellors. All of these programs are recognized training courses of the Australian Counselling Association (ACA).
