Since its first intake of students in 1961 at the Clayton campus in Melbourne, Australia, Monash University has grown to become a truly global university. Clayton is the largest Monash campus located approximately 12 miles from downtown Melbourne. There are five other campuses in Australia: Caulfield (near downtown Melbourne), Peninsula (by the sea), Gippsland (in the country, approx 2 hours from Melbourne), Berwick (on the outer fringes of Melbourne) and Parkville (Pharmacy College in downtown Melbourne).
