Justine Somogyi will also be joining us! Justine is Griffith’s Regional Manager for Canada. Originally from Brisbane, she has lived in three countries outside of Australia, In 2014, Justine moved to Halifax with her husband and dog, but is now based in Guelph.

Griffith Law School

Griffith Law School‘s three-year graduate Bachelor of Laws program includes Canadian Law courses to prepare for the National Committee on Accreditation exams to certify your Griffith law degree for practice in Canada. You will learn from experienced lecturers who can guide you through what’s involved and give you personalised advice on how to prepare. You can even attempt the exams on the Gold Coast before returning to Canada!

Program: Bachelor of Laws (graduate entry)

Getting ready to study in Australia is probably the most stressful for most students. But it doesn’t have to be!

By using a combination of past student surveys and our own expertise, we have come up with an informative guide to get you ready for your big move!

This predeparture guide will involve a series of videos, emails, webinars, and blogs to keep you on track during the weeks leading up to your arrival in Australia.

The webinars will feature detailed info and specific guidance (like university-specific accommodation), so you can tune in and ask questions in a live setting. Bonus? Videos and webinars will be made available as a playlist, so you can refer to them at any time!

About the UQ Medicine Phase 1

In the UQ Medicine program, years 1 and 2 combine biomedical sciences, public health, medical ethics and clinical skills training in a case-based learning context, focused around a series of patient-centred cases, each designed to highlight principles and issues in health and disease. Early patient contact, clinical reasoning and research training are embedded to develop advanced clinical skills and medical knowledge required for evidence-based clinical practice.

Phase 1 consists of the pre-clinical years, and Phase 2 comprises the clinical rotations. Each course is a separate entity with its own curriculum, assessment, and course coordinator. In between Years 1 and 2, there is an Observership conducted during the Summer Semester.

About the University of Newcastle Law School Juris Doctor Program

Offered at a postgraduate level, the Juris Doctor degree prepares students to be a career-ready graduate with the skills and extensive knowledge to become a leader in Australian and global legal practice. Completing the JD will see students contribute to the University of Newcastle Legal Centre, working on real cases and providing an important service to the community. Ryerson’s Law Practice Program (LPP) is the innovative eight-month licensing program available to Law Society of Ontario licensing candidates seeking to get called to the Bar in Ontario.

Practical Training (August – December)

  • Candidates work both individually and in “law firms” supported by practicing lawyers
  • Practical—files developed by practicing lawyers
  • Relevant—interview clients, conduct research, draft documents, letters and agreements, develop an approach, conduct negotiations, prepare the client, argue motions, conduct examinations and cross-examinations, and manage the client and the practice

Work Placement (January – April)

  • Candidates are trained to hit the ground running

It’s that time of year again—so many of our students are getting ready to go to Australia! Whether you have already accepted your offer, will be doing so in the next few weeks, you are invited to attend an OzTREKK Pre-departure Meet & Greet!

So, what happens during an OzTREKK Pre-Departure Meet & Greet?

This year, we’ll be holding our pre-dep events in Toronto, Vancouver, and Calgary, and these are must-not-miss events! We are not kidding on this one: our students who turn up to learn about what they need to organize prior to leaving Canada and what to expect when they arrive in Australia are far more prepared! Bring your parents or BFF, and take advantage of the opportunity to meet your future uni mates!

While we will have a few short presentations, it won’t all be boring: we’ve got trivia and prizes, a photo booth, and a parent-networking section where parents can discuss their concerns and get their questions answered! Mostly, we just want all of you to have fun and to feel comfortable before heading off to study in Australia.
