A lot of people might dismiss the thought, thinking, “It won’t happen to me.” But sometimes it does!

We are proud to announce that three OzTREKK Sydney Medical School students have received a University of Sydney Vice-Chancellor’s International Scholarship, and will receive $10,000 toward their first-year tuition fees at the University of Sydney.

The Sydney Vice Chancellor’s International Scholarships are awarded to exceptional international students based on academic merit. The scholarship is open to all commencing international students enrolling in an undergraduate or postgraduate coursework degree and all applicants are automatically considered.

All of us at OzTREKK send out congratulations (and cheering!) to Kira S, Kevin C, and Angella L! Way to go, guys!

Dean’s International Graduate Entry Masters Scholarship

This scholarship will awarded to one international student who is commencing a Graduate Entry Masters in the Sydney Faculty of Health Sciences. The scholarship will be awarded based on both academic achievement in the candidates undergraduate degree and a one-page personal statement that describes leadership experience, future career goals and reason for choice of degree.

Eligibility: Open to prospective international students only. Students must commence studies in the next academic year.

Amount Awarded: The scholarship is valued at $6,000 in a one-off payment, awarded to one student.

Closing Date: October 2, 2014

Sydney Achievers International Scholarship

The Sydney Achievers International Scholarships are for new international students commencing at the University of Sydney in Semester 2, 2014.

University of Sydney Medical School

Study at the University of Sydney, NSW

Sydney Achievers International Scholarships are designed to attract high-achieving, academically meritorious, international students and invite them to enjoy the Sydney experience at Australia’s oldest institution of higher education. Successful candidates will receive AUD $10,000 each per annum for the normal duration of the course, provided certain conditions are met.

The University of Sydney will assess applications based on the entry criteria as summarised below:

  • Applicants must have received a Firm Offer of Admission for an undergraduate or postgraduate coursework courses for Semester 2, 2014
  • Applicants must have completed an Australian Year 12 qualification or an international senior secondary qualification accepted by the university with outstanding results, as deemed by the University of Sydney;
  • Students completing Foundation Studies Programs offered by Australian or New Zealand universities are eligible; and
  • Students who have already commenced/completed university studies, or students transferring with credit exemptions and/or advanced standing, are not eligible.

Application Procedure

  • To be considered for the Sydney Achievers International Scholarship, a candidate must receive a Firm Offer of Admission. Applicants receiving a Firm Offer of Admission for Semester 2, 2014 will be invited to lodge an Expression of Interest from May 2014. The closing date for the EOI form is Friday, June 13, 2014 (except for CET and Foundation Programmes applicants).
  • Successful candidates will be notified by email in June and July.

OzTREKK Sydney Dental School students win scholarships!

We have great news to share, OzTREKKers!

We are proud to announce that two OzTREKK Sydney Dental School students have received Sydney Achievers International Scholarships, which entitle them to receive $10,000 per year over the course of their degrees! And the best news? This isn’t the first time an OzTREKK student has received this scholarship. Last year, OzTREKK student David Tran Nguyen won a Sydney Achievers International Scholarship for the University of Sydney Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) program as well!

About the 2014 Sydney Achievers International Scholarships

Up to 100 of these prestigious scholarships were offered in 2014 to high-achieving, academically meritorious, international students, inviting them to enjoy the University of Sydney experience at one of the finest institutions of higher education in the world.

Benefits

  • AUD$10,000 each per annum (i.e., $15,000 in total for a 1.5 year program, $20,000 in total for a 2-year program), available for the CRICOS registered duration of a recipient’s program of study, for any postgraduate coursework program offered at the University of Sydney (subject to the recipient maintaining satisfactory academic progress each year).
  • No living allowance is payable.

Criteria for Eligibility

  • Applicants must have completed the equivalent of an Australian bachelor degree qualification with outstanding results based on the Australian grading system, as deemed by the University of Sydney.
  • Students who have already commenced/completed postgraduate studies, or students transferring with credit exemptions and/or advanced standing, are not eligible.

About the Sydney Dental School

The Sydney Dental School’s Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) is a graduate-entry program that has been purposefully designed to adhere to the well-rounded course structure of the North American postgraduate model, but has also maintained the sophisticated clinical training for which the University of Sydney has come to be renowned, giving students an applicable knowledge of dental health from the community to the laboratory.

University of Sydney announces Engineering and IT Technologies scholarships

The Faculty of Engineering & Information Technologies at the University of Sydney is pleased to announce that online applications for the Dr Abdul Kalam International Undergraduate Scholarships and Postgraduate Scholarships for Semester 2, 2013, and Semester 1, 2014, are now open.

The scholarships are valued at 50% of the tuition fees for one year of study in any undergraduate or postgraduate coursework program offered by the Faculty of Engineering & Information Technologies.

About Dr Abdul Kalam

Dr APJ Abdul Kalam was the 11th president of India. During his five years in office, Dr Abdul Kalam’s focus was on transforming India into a developed nation by 2020. A distinguished  scientist and aeronautical engineer by training, Dr Kalam advocates that is possible to work cooperatively for an economically developed, prosperous and peaceful society.

In recognition of his contribution to his profession, Dr Kalam was presented with an Honorary Doctorate of Engineering from the University of Sydney in May 2011. The Dr Abdul Kalam International Undergraduate and Postgraduate Scholarships celebrate his commitment to education, and his endeavours to support  outstanding students to develop as future leaders.

About the Scholarships

Selection will be based on academic merit as determined by the Faculty Selection Panel. Selection will be made by the Faculty Selection Panel which will include the Associate Dean Education, Associate Dean International, International Marketing Manager and Manager of the Graduate School of Engineering & IT.

Dr Abdul Kalam International Undergraduate Scholarships

Important points to note:

  • The scholarship shall be tenable in the Faculty of Engineering & Information Technologies and shall not be transferable to another faculty.
  • The scholarship may not be deferred to another semester or year.
  • The scholarship shall be tenable for a maximum of one year subject to the recipient meeting all obligations of the program, and subject to satisfactory academic progress deemed to be a minimum credit average (65%)each semester.
  • The recipient will be required to enroll as a full-time international student and must retain their international student status on a full time basis throughout their enrollment at the University of Sydney.
  • The recipient must not be in receipt of any other tuition scholarship from the University of Sydney.

Dr Abdul Kalam International Postgraduate Scholarships

This postgraduate scholarship is open to all international applicants with an offer of admission for a master by coursework program in the Faculty of Engineering and IT at the time of submitting a scholarship application.

As well, the scholarship is open to applicants with a firm/unconditional offer of admission by the relevant scholarship closing date for the appropriate semester. Students who have already commenced their postgraduate studies, or students transferring from other postgraduate programs at the University of Sydney are not eligible.

The scholarship shall be awarded on recommendation of the Faculty Selection Panel based on academic merit with a minimum high distinction average or equivalent as indicated by the applicant’s performance in their undergraduate degree.
