Sydney Dental School

OzTREKK office will be closed this Monday, Oct. 9

Some things we at OzTREKK are thankful for, in no particular order:

  • My sister. She makes me laugh. If she was to read this (which she won’t), she would say, “James, stop.”
  • Coffee
  • My family, of course.
  • Insatiable creativity and warm weather that extends well into fall
  • My two beautiful boys
  • The positive people in my life
  • My amazing friends and family
  • I am most thankful to live in a country that values differences in opinion, is safe and welcoming to varying cultural backgrounds, and provides accessible health care.
  • Netflix documentaries
  • I am thankful that I’ve been able to share all of the seasonal holidays with my family. It was tough being away for big holidays when I lived in Australia.
  • Those rare nights when I might get a restful sleep (which is not very often).

We wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving!

What are you thankful for this Thanksgiving?

It’s that time of year again, when mornings are crisp and long, and stretch lazily under a haze of fog; when afternoons are pricked with cool breezes and perfumed with wisps of wood smoke; where trees are ablaze with fiery reds and paths are blanketed with leaf litter and dimpled with sunlight; when evenings are swept with long, purple shadows and hum with the trill of crickets….

What are you thankful for this Thanksgiving? It’s fall in Canada, and it’s incredible!

Fall is also a good time to be thankful. For this Thanksgiving weekend, we wish all of you the best. As you spend this time with friends and family, what are you most thankful for? Here’s our list:

Nicole: COFFEE. And fall weather.

Krista: I am thankful to be able to host a Thanksgiving feast with my husband this weekend for our family. Our parents, grandparents, siblings, nieces and nephew will all be together. Who needs anything more than that?

Lindsay: I’m thankful for my family and friends. There are so many people who I cherish near and far, that contribute to my life in so many ways: friendship, love and happiness – I couldn’t thank them enough. Oh and wine; I’m thankful for wine.

Jaime: My fam. My parents are awesome and my sister is, quite simply, the best person I know.

Adam: In no particular order: family, kimchi, turkey, acrylic paint, good beer

Matthew: Sports—Go Jays! -Television -Girlfriend -Wing nights -Sweatpants -This gig!

Meghan: I am thankful for my amazing family and friends, and the beautiful sunny weather I will be basking in while in Australia! Woohoo!

Amanda: Where to begin?! Gratitude is my thing fo sho! My Nanny’s unconditional love and wisdom. The ability to access to clean water and fresh food. My positive perception shift and personal growth that came from living overseas. Having the use of all of my senses. And, Adam G J.

Shannon: I am thankful that I am not a turkey.

Julie: Right now, the outdoors looks like a Group of Seven painting and reads like a Fitzgerald novel. What’s not to love?

Happy Thanksgiving! Have a wonderful weekend!

Carrots, turnips, parsnips, yum!

Loosen the belt, table-slouch some.

Drowsy and full, a satisfied smile.

Family and friends, stay for a while!

We wish you the best—that’s what we do.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Turkey, stuffing, pumpkin pie, oh my! As tradition goes, Thanksgiving is a day to celebrate the harvest and other blessings of the past year.

Australian universities in Australia

Australian brush turkey…apparently not a good substitute!

Of course, Australians don’t celebrate Thanksgiving Day as we do in North America, but did you know they have a National Day of Thanksgiving held in May?

Take the time this weekend to be thankful for something! We’ll all be with our families this weekend, and the OzTREKK office will be closed this Monday, October 13, 2014 to celebrate, but we’ll be back first thing on Tuesday, October 14, 2014!

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

Why go to university in Australia?

Because Australia has some of the world’s best universities, that’s why! Innovative programs, some available nowhere else. A wonderful climate. A reasonable cost of living. Exotic travel experiences. Incredibly friendly people….

For students, Australia pretty much has it all, which is why it has more than 250,000 international students, making it one of world’s most popular foreign study destinations.

Besides being a great experience, studying at an Australian university is a great way to gain an edge in an increasingly globalized economy. No matter which university or program you choose, international study in Australia will give you access to unique academic, professional and personal opportunities.

Happy Thanksgiving from OzTREKK

Canadian Thanksgiving is an annual celebration held the second Monday in October. In Ontario, it is a statutory holiday.

Its first roots began in the 1578 voyage of Martin Frobisher from England in search of the Northwest Passage. As the passage was often treacherous and icy (they lost a ship at one point), the preacher on board exhorted the crew to be thankful for their safe passage.

We are thankful for our wonderful students!

In 1604, French settlers, having crossed the ocean and arrived in Canada with explorer Samuel de Champlain, also held huge feasts of thanks. They even formed the Order of Good Cheer and gladly shared their food with their First Nations neighbours. After the American Revolution, American loyalists moved from the newly independent United States and came to Canada, bringing with them customs and practices of the American Thanksgiving, such as the turkey, pumpkin, and squash.

For many years before it was declared a national holiday in 1879, Thanksgiving was celebrated in either late October or early November. From 1879 onward, Thanksgiving Day has been observed every year, the date initially being a Thursday in November. It was officially declared to be held the second Monday in October in 1957. As tradition goes, it is a day to celebrate the harvest and other blessings of the past year.
