A lot of people might dismiss the thought, thinking, “It won’t happen to me.” But sometimes it does!

We are proud to announce that three OzTREKK Sydney Medical School students have received a University of Sydney Vice-Chancellor’s International Scholarship, and will receive $10,000 toward their first-year tuition fees at the University of Sydney.

The Sydney Vice Chancellor’s International Scholarships are awarded to exceptional international students based on academic merit. The scholarship is open to all commencing international students enrolling in an undergraduate or postgraduate coursework degree and all applicants are automatically considered.

All of us at OzTREKK send out congratulations (and cheering!) to Kira S, Kevin C, and Angella L! Way to go, guys!

This scholarship is for high-achieving students applying for the Doctor of Medicine program at Griffith University. This award is valued at $10,000 in total (two payments of $5,000 in the first year of the program).

Applications close Thursday, Nov. 1, 2018 (for January commencement). Winners will be notified by Nov. 16, 2018.

Can I apply?

  • Have applied and be eligible for admission, or be in receipt of a conditional or unconditional offer from the university, for entry into the Doctor of Medicine by the scholarship closing date.
  • Have satisfied all appropriate entry requirements for the proposed degree program, including results of previous study and English language proficiency as per Griffith University’s entry requirements.
  • Be commencing and enrolling as a new a full-time student in the Doctor of Medicine degree at Griffith University.

What do I include in my application?

  • A completed scholarship application form by the published closing date.
  • A certified/attested true copy of academic transcripts and supporting documentation demonstrating strong academic merit.
  • Assessment of a personal statement addressing the three items listed below for applicants to outline their merit for the scholarship:
    – Demonstrate (and provide examples of) your knowledge of the profession of medicine and the broader role of medicine in the health care system.
    – Demonstrate (and provide examples of) your leadership and teamwork skills. Please also indicate your career plans for the future.
    – Outline any challenges you have faced in your education and in what way you have sought to overcome these challenges.

The Griffith Medical School is known for its innovation and excellence in medical research and education. Griffith MD students will develop communication skills and learn about the art and science of medicine in its wider social and ethical context. The program comprises extensive clinical placements in health care facilities ranging from rural settings through to the brand new Gold Coast University Hospital.

The Doctor of Medicine program is a four-year graduate-entry program and focuses on four major themes:
1. Doctor and Patient
2. Knowledge of Health and Illness
3. Doctor and Health in the Community
4. Doctor and Law, Ethics and Professional Practice

And, guess what? Griffith offers a scholarship for the Doctor of Medicine program and has extended this deadline to November 30.

Griffith MD application and scholarship deadlines for 2018 intake

It’s getting close to that time of year when applications for the 2018 intake are wrapping up. If you’ve applied to Griffith Medical School, please note applications will be closing officially on Sept. 29, 2017—or sooner if they’ve filled the program. You are encouraged to have all your app documents to OzTREKK as soon as possible in order to meet this deadline. Oh, and don’t forget to apply for the scholarship. 🙂

Griffith University Medical School MD program

Griffith MD students will develop communication skills and learn about the art and science of medicine in its wider social and ethical context. The program comprises extensive clinical placements in health care facilities ranging from rural settings through to the new Gold Coast University Hospital. Students will also develop an understanding of the importance of lifelong learning, and learn how to be resourceful in seeking information and adapting to new technologies.

The Doctor of Medicine program at Griffith is a graduate-entry program. As such, all applicants are to have completed or be in the final year of completing an undergraduate degree before they are eligible to apply for entry.

Applicants to the Griffith MD are encouraged from all degree backgrounds. The medical selection criteria comprise three essential components:

  1. Completion of a bachelor degree achieving an overall GPA of 5.00 or above on a 7-point scale.
  2. Performance in the Graduate Medical School Admission Test (GAMSAT) or MCAT. Applicants must achieve a minimum score of 50 in each GAMSAT section; MCAT scores are required to be no more than two years old at the time of application and the minimum score for applications to be considered further is 8/8/8 or 123 in each section.
  3. Performance in a Medical Selections interview. International Medical Selections interviews are conducted via Skype. Interviews are generally scheduled for June, August, and October.
