A University of Queensland Scholarship Goes a Long Way

UQ Provides Scholarships Opportunities to International Students

At OzTREKK, we are often asked by our students about the scholarship opportunities available when studying in Australia as an international student.

So whenever we hear of a great scholarship potential for our students, we want them to know about it.

UQ International offers a limited number of scholarship opportunities for outstanding international students intending to study in either an undergraduate or postgraduate coursework program at The University of Queensland (UQ).

The scholarships is a one off reduction from a student’s tuition fees for the value of $6,000 AUD.

So how can you be eligible to apply?

Applicants must be an international student and have received an offer of admission to the university. Scholarship selection will rely heavily on the applicant’s GPA, and the selection committee is looking for about an 83% GPA for the postgraduate coursework scholarship, while undergraduate applicants must have a 92% GPA from their high school studies.

Guest Speakers presented at the OzTREKK Medical Licensing and Residency Workshops

Studying medicine for at least four years halfway across the world is no small decision.

That’s why OzTREKK wants to ensure our Canadian student applicants have
the most up-to-date knowledge about their options to practise medicine following graduation.

Last year we hosted our first OzTREKK Medical Licensing and Residency Workshops, where we travelled across Canada, and outlining the post-graduate options for a Canadian studying medicine abroad. The students appreciated the workshops
so much that we decided to do it again this year.

From June 14 to 18, OzTREKK‘s Matt Miernik and Cathy McNally travelled to Toronto, Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver and Ottawa, to outline the options available to Canadian students studying medicine in Australia.

Whether they want to return to Canada or remain in Australia, those who attended our workshop learned about the avenues to practise medicine. At OzTREKK, we found it difficult to gain straight forward information about their options following graduation, so we did our research and broke down the process for our applicants and their families.

This year we also brought in many more guest speakers. We welcomed a number of provincial representatives who spoke at three of the five workshops, outlining the particular options available to the applicants in their respective province. The speakers brought a great element to the workshops, because they areĀ  well versed in the international medical graduate field.

So what exactly did we talk about at these workshops?

-The Australian Medical School Systems
-The Canadian Residency Matching Service (CaRMS) program
- Provincially-specific programs available to International Medical Graduates
- The Australian Internship and Residency Program

Students and their families had the opportunity to ask any questions about studying medicine in Australia, and obtaining a residency after their program completion.

Learn about her goal to wear the same brown dress for a six-month period, and raise money and awareness at the same time. Find out if she reached her goal, and whether or not she is ready to destruct her dress!

Hundreds attend annual OzTREKK Fair

img_1264Each June, OzTREKK hosts an Information and Application Fair, whereby our Australian university partners attend the event, giving Canadian students and their families the opportunity to learn more about their program area of interest, and speak individually to a university representative.

OzTREKK staff attend the fair, and offer insight to the programs, and answer any questions attendees may have about studying in Australia.

We hosted this popular fair this past weekend in Toronto, and it was buzzing with energy! The event, held at the University of Toronto Hart House, was packed, as interested Canadians came into the room, and discovering their study options. All seven of our Australian university partners had representatives present at the Fair, and they were a terrific resource to offering insight to life on campus.

Though OzTREKK staffers lost their voices, we loved every moment of it!
