A rural Queensland pharmacy, owned and run by UQ Pharmacy alumnae, has been awarded Australian Pharmacy of the Year. Lucy Walker Chemmart Pharmacy in Goondiwindi also won the Community Engagement category in the 2017 Guild Pharmacy Awards. The annual awards, bestowed by the Pharmacy Guild of Australia, recognise pharmacies that are leading the way in providing innovative and optimal healthcare for members of their community.

University of Melbourne students run Teddy Bear hospital

Recently, more than 1,200 medicine, nursing, dentistry, physiotherapy, audiology, biomedical, science, speech pathology and social work students from the University of Melbourne ran a Teddy Bear Hospital (TBH) to raise funds for the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday appeal.

Students aimed to reduce children’s fears associated with medical environments, procedures and professionals by familiarising them with health care in a fun, relaxed and interactive manner.

Students rank Bond University best in Australia—again

Bond University has topped institutions from around Australia to earn the highest level of student satisfaction, according to new data released by the Federal Government recently.

Students at the independent Gold Coast university rated their educational experience at Bond University the best in the country in the latest undergraduate Student Experience Survey, released by the Department of Education on its Quality Indicators for Learning and Teaching (QILT) website.

University of Sydney veterinary students enjoy exchange in Indonesia

In February 2017, three students, Lidya, Jonathon and myself spent one month at the University Gadjah Mada in Yogyakarta Indonesia as a part of our final year veterinary intern rotations. This counted towards the public health component of our final year. It was interesting to be able to see the different diseases and different approaches employed in Indonesia. It was also great to be able to travel and see the sights during our down time.

We were greeted at the airport by our student buddies Stella, Nendis and Adretta who took us to our accommodation on campus, and continued to show us around and take care of us throughout the month.

James Cook University researchers from the College of Medicine and Dentistry may have found a way to reduce trauma and prevent infections after Caesarean births.

Caesarean delivery rates are increasing worldwide and around a third of all mothers in Australia, USA and UK give birth surgically each year, but a C-section is not without risks.

UQ environmental sciences is number 1 in Australia in latest global rankings

Just in time for Earth Week…. The University of Queensland has cemented its place as the top university in Australia for environmental sciences and agriculture in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2017.

Executive Dean of Science Professor Melissa Brown said UQ ranked at number one in Australia in these subjects and globally, UQ was ranked in the world’s top 20 universities in environmental sciences (12th) and agriculture and forestry (19th).
